Combining business and pleasure
Some say that it’s a bad idea to turn your hobby into a money-maker.
They say that you’ll no longer enjoy your hobby. It will become just a job. Like your 9 to 5.
I’m here to disagree.
This can be different for you, of course. We aren’t all the same. Luckily.
But I’ve many times started with something I found fun and then turned it into a lucrative side hustle.
If I hadn’t had several already, any of them could easily have made my day job redundant.
Over the years, I’ve had fun with PHP (made money with it), World of Warcraft (made money with it), computers and the interest (made money with it)…
Even one of my latest dabbles, Notion… fun and I made money with it.
Do I still think Notion is fun? Absolutely. It didn’t take anything away from my pleasure working with it that someone paid me for a template.
I’m well aware of the psychological experiment with kids.
They all enjoyed drawing and painting. But when the test group got a reward for doing what they were already loving, they stopped loving it. It because something they had to be paid to do.
In spite of having the maturity of a 12-year-old, I disagree on this point.
I can definitely have fun and make money. What do you say?
