Creating lasting habits can be difficult, whereas bad habits form miraculously easy.
Good habits are good, though. But if you’ve ever tried to make yourself, say, write 2,000 words per day of your new info product, you know how hard it is to get into this habit.
Even when you follow a ritual like: Start computer, bring coffee, open Word…
Right now I’m reading Mini Habits by Stephen Guise.

Why I Love This Book
It was just what I was missing.
Stephen Guise found the way to build habits that stick by chance.
I know this way works, because I did something similar, also by chance. And I haven’t broken my work-out streak since August 4th, 2022. Not going to either. It’s a part of me, now. A new, good, and ingrained habit.
The book shows a proven way to trick the brain into forming a new and good habit.
Part One Is All about Why This Works
I found this part super-interesting and inspiring. I think it’s good to know exactly why Stephen’s approach with forming small habits work so much better than just deciding to go to the gym and work out for 30 minutes three times a week.
You’ll learn how Stephen found his method (okay, you’ll learn it many times) and the psychological reasons for why it works.
Part Two Is about Building Your Habit(s)
Yes, you can work on more than one habit at a time, but according to Stephen, you shouldn’t aim for too many.
I love how he takes traditional goal setting and makes his own twist.
We’ve all heard the two rules:
- You either perform your new habit at a fixed time every day (say, 10 am) or
- You perform your new habit when you’re doing something else (say, brushing your teeth)
I’ve tried both in the past. None of them worked for me, so it’s great that Stephen has a better way.
You should definitely get this book. But…
Do You Need the Second Book in His Series?
Book 2 is about building weight loss habits.
I haven’t read it. Don’t know if I will, either.
I’ve found my solution and I’ve dropped 40 kg/88 lbs thanks to changing my diet. If you’re interested, you can find my journey here on my other blog.
But for this first book, Mini Habits, I highly recommend it.
