You know what can make the difference between success and failure?

Connections.

When I quit my day-job in 1995 my counselor told me to network and get connections. That is one of the best pieces of advice I’ve ever gotten.

I could write a long story about this, but it will be for another day.

Here is your chance to build connections in the world of writers.

I want to share with you the mail I got from Bill Platt last night:

If you would like to belong to a FaceBook group where you can communicate with other authors and ask questions, I set up a new group for that purpose this weekend.

Sign up to the Writer’s Discussion Group here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/872129832841035/

There are not really any rules, except for a few:

  • If you have a question, ask it.

  • If you think someone is asking a stupid question, ignore it.

  • Don’t call people names.

  • You can disagree with people’s ideas, so long as you don’t redirect your disagreement into a personal attack.

  • Don’t call people names.

  • Don’t be rude for the sake of being rude.

  • You can post about your books, but you cannot link to porn videos or products not related to book publishing or writing.

  • If you are easily offended, please realize that it is not my job to make sure you are not offended, only that you have a safe place to ask questions.

I started paying attention this weekend to one group for writers, and it really is a hostile environment. Groups that I operate will not be a hostile environment to those who wish to learn.

p.s. Feel free to share this group with your friends.

I hope to see you in there.
