One of the questions I see a lot is how to add a URL to the resource box. People don’t know exactly how to use HTML codes and the difference between a formatted (active) link and a non-formatted link.
Recently, I answered that question on Ezine Article’s blog, but their blog code snipped my code, so it didn’t show up correctly. Here is how you can do:
A formatted (active) link consists of HTML code and an anchor text. Typically, it will look like this (fake example link):
<a href=”http://www.siteurl.com” target=”_blank”>anchor text</a>
When a visitor sees this link, he’ll only see this: anchor text
You can tell that it’s an active link, because when you hover your mouse over it, you’ll see the hand marker, and you can click the link and go to the site.
Use your anchor text wisely. This is where you should put your keywords, and NOT, as I’ve seen many do, write “CLICK HERE”.
Actually, I taught people this habit long before the letters SEO were even invented. You see, a blind person visiting your site will have a programme to read the home page out aloud. And that programme will use the anchor text to indicate what that link is all about.
Imagine the experience a blind person will have, going to a site with plenty of links, all called “click here”?
Not my idea of being helpful.
Right, rant over and done.
You are allowed to have two self serving links in the resource box by most article directories. I recommend that you use one as a formatted link, and one as a non-formatted link. I’ve noticed that if I put the same link both places, more people click on the un-formatted link.
You can do it like this:
If you want more great tips about <a href=”http://MyWebPageGoesHere.com/keywords.html” target=”_blank”>keywords here</a>, then take a look at my blog at http://MyWebPageGoesHere.com/keywords.html
Or like this, where the second link goes to your index page:
If you want more great tips about <a href=”http://MyWebPageGoesHere.com/keywords.html” target=”_blank”>keywords here</a>, then take a look at my blog at http://MyWebPageGoesHere.com/
Thanks Britt for this post,i have been struggling to find ways of adding my link in my resource box. This article simplifies this.
Kenya
Glad you could use it. And always remember the “http://” at the beginning of the link.
