Have you ever procrastinated like this? (My struggle for an author blog)

This post may contain affiliate and ad links for which I earn commissions.

Did you ever get up late?

And instead of working, you started to procrastinate big time?

Well, that’s what I did today. I got up at 10, and then I decided to work on my author page. Not on Facebook, but my blog.

First I exported all the blog posts and imported them on my money making blog.

Then I went on to search for a fitting theme.

I wanted a nice theme, not too expensive, and I wanted it to showcase my books, both my existing non-fiction books and later my fiction books.

That hunt took me seven hours!

SEVEN

I found a nice one pretty fast. The price was $67, which is more than I was willing to pay, since I already paid for a couple of other themes (like Thesis).

But that was not the worst part.

It had the features I wanted, like a slider at the top, featuring different books, direct connection to Amazon, a opt-in form for list building, author bio and it looked good and simple.

So I went to their homepage to check if it was possible to try before purchase. Nope, but they had another theme available for free.

Only trouble was that I couldn’t install it. I got an error message.

Then I saw customers complain about bad, bad customer service.

This was a complete turn-off for me, so I continued my search.

I found others that was almost as good, but the prices were around $80.

I might finally have found something…

It looks as if it fits my needs, like:

  • It has a slider at the top, which could feature my books.
  • It has a direct link to Amazon, so people can click and buy my books.
  • It should be easy to use according to the demo video.

I’m not sure if it can show a "sign up" form, which is non-optional for me, so I’ll have to investigate that. I contacted the vendor, and I’ll let you know tomorrow how it goes.

If all goes well, I will also be able to show you my author page by then.

The price of this theme is less than $30.

But price is not all. It has to work well, be SEO friendly, load fast, have an opt-in box and more before I’m willing to switch from Thesis to another theme.

We’ll see. I’ll let you know as soon as I know more myself.
