I So Wanted to Help – But… Giving Money Making Ideas Was Not the Solution

Hi there ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’m going to be very personal in this blog post. Maybe you will not care about what I’m going to write, and that’s fine. Maybe you’ve experienced something similar, and then perhaps finding out that you’re not alone will make a difference.

In this blog post I’m going to talk about wanting to help others; knowing the evil inside you; and finally reaching a good place.

No, don’t worry. I’m not going to get religious ๐Ÿ˜‰

Right, here we go. Let’s start with the evil inside me.

Being Scorpio Means Knowing that a Knife Can Be Used to Other Things Than Cutting Bread

Scorpio

I was born in Denmark, one freezing cold (what else in Denmark) November night. To be more precise: Theย 17th of November.

That makes my astrological sun sign theย Scorpio, and I once read that a Scorpio knew that a knife could be used to other things than cutting bread.

This means that we’re aware of the our own darker sides.

When I was talking to a friend in World of Warcraft, about how I didn’t feel that I was a good person, once (yeah, you do other things than just play night elf in that game), he asked me:

What do you love the most to do?

And I said: Oh, I love to help people and to make them reach their goals.

That moment, I realized that I maybe wasn’t as bad a person as I thought I was, because this was the truth. I really do love to help people with things I know about. I hate to help in the kitchen, because it makes me feel nervous, but when it comes to things that I know, I am only too glad to help.

WoW Friends Wanted to Learn to Make Money Online

If you play World of Warcraft (WoW) more than a few minutes, you’ll hear this question from other players: “Where do you come from?” And when “a little town outside Darnassus” (insider joke) hasn’t satisfied the curious asker, and when you’ve told some of your story, they will ask: “And what are you doing? Do you go to school? Or do you work?”

When I told people that I was a writer and that I made my living online, they said: “Oh, can you help me? I want to do that, too.”

And of course, I wanted to help.

But before I go on, I will interrupt myself to quote a short bit of text, written by Steve Scott (I’ll come back to him, in a later blog post). What triggered this blog post was this:

In early 2011, I decided to focus on the concept of โ€œInternet Lifestyle without the Bullshit.โ€ This is a specific niche because it targets anyone who is willing to work hard for an online business.

(Youโ€™d be surprised at how many people donโ€™t fit this description.)

(The bolding is mine.)

And yes, I got very surprised. I offered my time and knowledge with pleasure to my friends, and some of them didn’t even get started, before they came up with excuses. One even said: “Don’t rush me!”

To be fair, there was one who actually wrote several articles, but then stopped.

Well, I cannot force people to take action. It’s their choice. But I wanted to make them happyโ€ฆ Still, they decided differently.

The same happened on this blog. I got a lot of emails from people who wanted help to get started, but when I pointed them to a solution, I never heard from them again.

That was until…

Squick Changed All That

I changed the tagline of my blog from something about “money making ideas” to the more direct “for action takers and money makers”, and that’s maybe where things started to change.

At least in my mind, I wasn’t attracting people who just wanted to be fed with finished turn-key products that would take no efford from them (sorry, they don’t exist) to people who were well aware that:

  • You can make money online.
  • You have to work to make money.

No, not necessarily hard work, but still enough to make a difference.

Then I created Squick Money, and I was surrounded by action takers and money makers! And I love it!

It’s so awarding finally to be able to help!

Give somebody a fish, and he’ll cry and tell you that he doesn’t know how to cook it, and that he’s starving. There’s nothing wrong with the fish, but with the mindset of the receiver.

The problem is finding people who wants to learn how to fish, rather than just being fed by others. But when you find them, it’s such a great feeling.

That’s where I am now. And I’m happy.

  1. You’re so right on with this Britt! I know a lot of those types of people who want it, but don’t want to do what it takes to get it. We’re all like that in some areas. I want to play guitar. But I want to PLAY, not practice and learn!! ๐Ÿ™‚

Thanks for doing what you do!

    1. Haha, you’re so right about the guitar thing. For me, it’s the piano, but same thing. Oh, I don’t mind practicing, but only a little, and after that I should be able to play perfectly.

  2. It really is in the mindset. I have been at this for a few years now and I am nowhere near where I want to be. But I know that the possibility of earning good money is there, I just have to work until I find my own path there.

With the help of some great products from yourself and others online, making money online can really become a reality.

    Great post. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. I agree! I think it’s knowing deep down inside that it’s possible that really makes it possible. And then worth putting in the effort.

  3. Glad you are happy now! I actually really like the squick method. I have 21 lenses now and have made 7 sales. All smaller ticket items but the potential is there. One lens made 5 sales of laser targeted items from one buyer!

I like the method where you do a tiny bit of keyword research – Traffic Travis makes it easy.

Now I’m a Giant Squid and can make them even faster since I can load up a template of the exact modules I want all in the right order. No more rearranging and choosing ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Gratz on being a Giant Squid ๐Ÿ™‚ I haven’t figured out (not tried in fact) how to use the template we have as Giant Squids. It would save some time for me. Hm. I’ll better take a look at that next week.

      1. Thanks! ๐Ÿ™‚
Just FYI – Squick has given me the best effect on lenses of any course I’ve followed. I have had (tiny $) sales start pouring in this past week. About 40 days after making my initial lenses for my case study!

  4. Hi Britt – I was going back a few days in my news feed and am so glad to come across your post from 2/14. I had just been reading an e-book by Steve Scott a few minutes before reading your post so his quote really caught my eye! I own a couple of your e-books, also (very helpful).

I think people look at making a living online as either quick-money or a scam. It really is a business and it takes a certain type of mindset to keep with it. I’m still waiting to make my first money.

Thanks for such a great post!

    1. That was a funny coincident, Patricia ๐Ÿ™‚ I’m reading a second book by Steve Scott at the moment. He’s very inspiring.

  5. I know what you mean Britt! I have friends and family asking all the time about how to help them learn to make money online. I quit doing it. Just my Mom and sister. that’s it. No one else – because I get too annoyed.

  6. Great posting here… just got off Tiff’s blog post along the same theme, and feel like there are a lot of us who are simply OVER trying to help people who won’t even get out of their own way!

LOVE the motto โ€œfor action takers and money makersโ€ —- that really hits the spot.
