[Case Study] – Day 4 – Updates and Five New Lenses

Hi there 🙂 Wow, day four already! Can you believe it?

Today’s theme is pens, pencils and erasers, plus [amazon asin=B002E02MVO&text=something I just love&chan=default]. Can’t help it 😉 It’s crazy, I know… I love both aspects of them: the color and the item.

But let’s get to the facts. Let’s see how my “old” lenses are doing, traffic-wise and click-wise. I don’t expect any income, yet, but you’ll never know. I hope Amazon will update their stats before I’m done writing this blog post.

My “Old” Lenses – Better Squidoo Ranking Overall

My best-ranking lens today is the lens about how to lose weight without dieting or working out. Second best is the one about goal setting and planning.

They rank as #33,657 and #36,097.

The other lenses rank from #39,835 (New Year’s Resolution Book) to #88,506 (Comic Writing Books).

This means that I should get paid for 14 out of 15 lenses (since Squidoo shares its income with the top 85,000 lenses) if they keep this position or improve it. Not bad, eh?

Five New Squidoo Lenses

I love pens and pencils and erasers… So today’s theme are about them, plus the weird thing I love 😉

  1. Those dice look awesome! 😀
I got your Squick guide some weeks ago, but haven’t built a lens with it yet. In fact I only have one lens right now and it’s one I don’t really like. LOL!

Your case study is really motivating me to follow along – I’ve put Squick on my netbook now so that I don’t even have an excuse when I’m not at home at my computer. I’ll follow along and build 4 lenses per week, that’s my goal for now.

Can I ask you, what methods do you use to rank your lenses in Google? Or is that not a primary focus for you?

Thanks for the case study and the Squick guide – it’s quick and easy! 🙂

    1. Hi Lisa and thank you for your comment. I’m so happy to learn that this case study is motivating 🙂

I only use the methods I’ve outlined in Squick to rank in Google, and no, I don’t put that much effort into it.

      1. I think I put too much effort into ranking, I want to take a top 10 spot before moving on to the next topic because I’m worried about getting distracted and forgetting about link building.
But your case study and those of others like Tiff’s lens challenge show that if you build it, they will come LOL!
I really should take that to heart and focus more on building than ranking =)

        1. Hehe, yes, I think so 🙂

Well, I might have been lucky, or did something right, but I’ve never worried about link building. I’ve been doing it a couple of times in connection with some learning, but never on my own.

And it seems that people who did a lot of link building were punished by Google for doing so, while my sites kept their ranks. I’ve had an article ranking for a one work keyword, very popular, in Denmark, and I didn’t do anything to rank for it, except I wrote the article as I thought it should be.

I look at the Squidoo rank, because it’s easy and fun, and because the top 85,000 earn money from their ad pool. And I use words in the name, title and URL that I think people might be looking for.

  2. I read your blue dice lens and the News section only talks about dice as in cooking; dice the onions etc. Doesn’t make sense.

  3. Hi Britt,
This is Day Two for my Squick Challenge and I have produced 5 lenses. Ouch that really hurt. lol.

    Here they are:

I have 10 lenses so far. I had initial thought about taking my time getting these done but you have motivated me to just get on with it so that it is out of the way. Then I can do the little bit of link building stuff you suggest and move on to my next challenge.

Thanks for letting me know about the empty modules. I think I need to upload the newer/updated version of Squidcrafter. Because I couldn’t see the issue on my little network, I did even realise there was an issue.

    Happy Lens Making 🙂
PS. Love the penholder lens. Great fun.

    1. Great ideas for your lens topics! And grats on getting so far already! I’m really impressed by all of you who joined this challenge.

Ah, maybe it’s just on my screen, it looks as if there’s an empty column, Victoria. It probably depends on the screen resolution and size.

For the rest of 2013, I plan to make one lens per day (4 days) and revise, add and edit existing lenses on the 5th day. But I might get prolific again later and do more than one per day 😀 It’s fun!
