Writing day3 squickchallenge

Hi there πŸ™‚ For the sake of this case study (and challenge), I have documented my progress so far. Ten lenses were already up there. Today I added five more – all about a topic that’s very close to my heart: Writing.

Status on First Ten Squidoo Lenses

My first ten Squidoo lenses made during this challenge have a Squidoo rank between 46,000 and 81,000, which is pretty good for new lenses.

I rarely check my position in Google, but just for the sake of it, let’s do it quickly. I used Google Chrom and an incognito window on Google.com and checked my keywords without quotesΒ and found that my lenses were:

#18 for the keywords “lose weight without dieting or working out”.

#99 for the keywords “goal setting and planning”.

#? for the keywords “goal setting for kids”

#45 for the keywords “goal setting workbook”

#14 for the keywords “diabetic food scale”

# ? for the keywords “bloating stomach” (seems to be dominated by a site called symptomchecker

# ? for the keywords “new year’s resolution book”

#64 for the keywords “fat burner tea” (unexpected to be within the first 100)

# ? for the keywords “planning calendar 2013”

# ? for the keywords “lose fat build muscle”

I only searched through the first 100 results and I want to remind you of the fact that I did no traditional keyword research before building these 10 lenses.

No sales according to Squidoo, yet, and only traffic on Amazon. No sales through those lenses (but one from something else).

My Five Lenses of Today

I decided to do things a bit differently today, so I did the keyword research tweak I’ve described in my book on pages 48 and following. This made the first part take longer, but hopefully it will result in better placements in Google later. Maybe πŸ™‚ I’ve been pleasantly surprised by lenses that I found through my Squick method.

So here’s what I came up with – the theme is writing. A lot of people want to write a book, and at the beginning of a new year this is a top goal for a lot of men and women.

Personally, I think about writing a children’s book… I did it already when I was 10 years old, and then one again together with my son when he was six. And then I wrote a couple of non-fiction books for kids. But when I tell people that I’m a writer, a lot of them look at me and ask if I’m writing children’s books. So maybe that’s my call?

Anyway, the first lens I made today was about that topic.

    1. Hi Victoria – Awesome lenses.

I’m sure the Squidcrafter will perform better than Squidoo’s own Amazon module. Although if it’s possible, I would put 4 items in each row because of Squidoo’s new format. It looks as if there’s an empty spot.

      Happy New Year πŸ™‚

  1. Now I have a real problem. On my little netbook the modules look completely full with the three Amazon products.

Thanks for letting me know, though I am not sure how I will be able to check this for myself. Just figured it out. I need to reduce the size of my screen. Now I can see the gaps.

Thanks for the heads up. πŸ™‚
