[Case Study] – Five Days – Five Squidoo Lenses Per Day

Squick Money: 15-Minute Squidoo SystemHi there 🙂 I can’t believe that it has been 15 days since my last blog post, but well… I have an excellent excuse. I’ve been busy 😉 And now I’m going to be even more busy, but this time, I promise, I will keep blogging meanwhile.

I’m going to challenge myself and do a case study at the same time: I’m going to build five Squidoo lenses per day for five days and see how much income I can make with those during January.

And I’m going to keep you posted here.

This is what I’m going to do:

Five Squick Lenses per Day (Slightly Tweaked)

I am going to use my Squick system to come up with topics for five lenses per day, 25 in total, and I’m going to add content to these lenses using my Squick system as well as other tweaks I come up with.

For this case study, I’ve created a new Amazon ID, but I will also use Squidoo’s Amazon links (faster and easier).

I will label my case study lenses, so I can easily show you my results when they start to roll in.

My Expectations?

Well, anything, really. Every income above $1 is a win! Because I know that when the snowball starts rolling… yeah, you know what happens 🙂

Will You Join Me?

Challenging yourself is always good. First, it makes you do something. Second, it helps you keep focus.

So are you in? One lens per day is fine, but track your progress, and share your lens here in the comments for my daily updates.

  1. Hi Britt,

    Awesome challenge!

I’m not going to take part this time as I’ve already got enough on my plate for January. I will, however, be following you and the rest of your peeps progress with keen interest.

    -Mike

  2. Hi Britt,

I am going to join you in this challenge but I got to admit that 5 lenses a day is quite a task!!! Hmm, I was looking at your Squick system — I’m going to have to get it…

Today I am starting with the first set of 5 lenses. But first a second cup of coffee and some serious cogitation.

    Cheers
    Joanne

    1. Way to go, Joanne 🙂 But watch out with that thinking thing 😀 Don’t overdo it 😉 I hope you’ll come back and tell me about your five (or how many you did) lenses.

  3. One more thing — what are you using to keep the spam out — that math challenge thingie? I would love to have that on my site because I keep getting spammy comments…thanks in advance…

    1. Awesome! You’ve been busy, Joanne

I’m going to make my five lenses now. My weekend is Friday and Saturday (and I have started to take Sunday off as well, but today, I’ll make the lenses before going World of Warcraft).

  4. Hi Britt!
I love the idea of this quick and easy challenge so I have jumped on board. I have just purchased your book and will start reading it tomorrow.

Challenges are what help me to get things do and 2013 will be my year of “Doing”, which includes making more money online, writing my short kindle books and lots more besides.

Have added you to my Google Plus thingy, Twitter thingy and have signed up for the mailing list too. 🙂

    1. Wow, Victoria, thanks, and welcome to the challenge 🙂

Looking forward to seeing your lenses.

I love what you wrote about 2013 becoming your year of “Doing” – awesome! 😀

    1. Good question, Leo, and you don’t exactly…

      Meaning:

1: The lens you haven’t published will not make you money.
2: The lens you haven’t created cannot be improved.

The purpose (for me at least, it will be different for non-writers) of these quick lenses is to get something out there, fast, and then improve them later. That saves you time. I spent two hours on a lens that never really made it above the 400,000 rank limit, so it was basically a waste of time.

  5. I bought and read your book and loved it. I started to implement your ideas with the keyword research and kept wondering why I couldn’t find anything on Amazon with less than 100 c0mpeting pages.
When I searched your keyword that you only got 33 results for (the one where Erica’s lens is #1) when I did the intitle and inurl search, I got 1920 results! That’s a huge difference. The only thing I can think of is maybe I get more results since I’m in the USA?
So now I’m wondering how to do this part of the research.

    1. Hi Cathy and thanks 🙂

I don’t always do that extra keyword research. I wanted to test the system as basically as possible, so to begin with I only found products the Squick way on Amazon.

Some of my lenses, I’ve later used my keyword research system on, and again others, I’ve used Erica’s method.

I’m using Google.com so I should get the same results as you, I think… I’ve used that method for years and I’ve had well-ranking articles on Ezine, so I assumed that it was the same results you could get everywhere, using google.com.

Okay, I went through a proxy server and chose a US proxy. This means that for Google it will look like I’m in the US. I used Firefox with my settings and did the search: 37 results now.

Then I opened an incognito window on Chrome. Still with the US proxy open.

1900 results, but wait: 4 pages? So I went to page 4 of the results, and then Google told me that there were only 33 results.

It’s a Google bug I’ve noticed before. It helps if you change your settings to show 100 results on a page, but sometimes you still have to go to the last page to see if there really are that many results. Don’t know why it happens.

Hope this helps 🙂 If not, then send me a message, or write again.

  6. Well, let’s start with Day 1. I’m completely impressed with your Squick system as far as productivity. And I’m definitely going to be blogging on how these work from the financial side as well. Thanks Britt!

Off to check out everyone’s work!!

    1. Welcome to the challenge, and wow! Thanks for that review, Debi!

I went to your lenses, and I loved all five of them. Great ideas!

    1. You’re doing well, Joanne.

I’m still working on my five lenses for day 3 right now. Tip: Do all five at the same time. It saves you time. Or at least, it saves me time, because I go through all of them and change the theme, add the modules, reorder etc. Then I close all but one and start adding content.

      1. The Squick ones that start moving up in rank will eventually be good for Amanda’s challenge once we start adding more content. 🙂

And the do all 5 at once tip works great…thanks Britt!

  7. I’ve got a challenge going over on my Squidoo blog and someone mentioned yours. That’s a lot of lenses! I struggle with even one a day. Your book looks interesting. I think I’ll be picking it up to review for SquidsPro!

    1. Thanks, Amanda 🙂 I heard about your challenge, but didn’t know where to find it. Now I’ve joined 🙂 Well, Squick lenses will not be fitting for your challenge. On the other hand, I personally love to do different things: Some fast and furious lenses to improve on later, and then some that takes time and love to create. Your challenge is for the latter. Great idea!

    1. Happy New Year 🙂 All great lenses. Hehe, yes, it’s challenging, but you’ve come up with some nice ideas.

  8. Well this is my 5th of Day 4 and the 100th lens overall. It is really just a skeleton….funny how it stalled me because it involves Mom. I kept getting lost in memories.

    1. I get lost in nightmares, when I think about my mother 😉 You’re lucky to have a good one. My grandmother was the sweetest person on Earth, on the other hand, and I have lots of lovely memories about her. Funny, too.

  9. I got just one more squick lens done today. I got quite a few likes on my last bunch and even one squid angel blessing!
My Squick lenses are doing pretty well already. They range from 69,000 to 98,000. My other lenses seem to be doing a little better today too.
http://www.squidoo.com/mickey-mouse-cookie-cutters is my newest one (got inspiration from happyflower who did a few cookie cutter lenses 🙂

Thanks for all the likes so far everyone!

    1. Good work, Clefty 🙂 And congratulations on the Angel Blessing. It’s good to hear that your lens ranks are increasing.
