My Best Time Saving Tip – Invaluable [vlog]

If you can cut away huge time wasters, it’s great. But quite often that is not an option. What I do is to cut down on the small things. Instead of wasting five minutes every day on doing the same task, I do it once, and then – with a little application – I can repeat it, and it will cost me less than a second to do so.

How about looking up important serial numbers? You’re maybe asked about this once a month, and every time it happens, you spend 10 minutes searching for it. Use my secret, and that will be something that belongs to the past. The next time, you don’t need to search. You just hit a couple of keys, and you have your serial number.

Or how about adding the same text snippet to a blog, daily?

Or any other repeated action that involves text or numbers? And even pictures – not only text and numbers.

Vlog Challenge Day 1 – How This Little App Can Save You a Huge Amount of Time

Okay, in this video, I talk about the app I use on my Mac to save me a lot of time. It’s called Typinator, and it’s trialware, meaning that you can try it for free with some limitations, and if you want to keep it, you must pay.

It costs 25 euro for a single version, and 38 euro for a family version. I’m not sure why they show me only the price in euro and not dollars, also.

Years ago, when I used a Windows PC, I had bought a similar program called ShortKeys. You can get it in a free light version, and the one I had costs $25 right now for one user. You get a discount, if you buy for more than one. Five users (compare that to the family version above) costs $94.

Another difference between the two seems to be their possibility to use pictures and formatted text. Typinator does that. ShortKeys didn’t when I used it, and I didn’t see anything about it in their features.

So if you want to save money (and more time): Get a Mac 😉

The way I use Typinator (and ShortKeys works almost the same way) is that I type the text once, and then I copy it to the program and save it under a short key. For example, let’s say I want to remember a color code to use it several times for the same Squidoo lens, then I write the code once, and I call it back by typing #color – and then it gives me the code: F6AFB0.

Of course, when I’m creating the next lens, and want another color, I can edit my old short cut and add the new color code instead.

Or how about answering the same thing several times to different people? Let’s say that I want to thank people for writing a testimonail about one of my products. I write the text once, and then I save it under a short key I can easily remember, like “#testimonial” – then it spits out the text, everytime I need it.

I also use it for serial numbers and other codes, I have to use once in a while.

You might think that’s nothing, but if I had to find that affiliate link, everytime somebody asked me, I would probably spend at least 5 minutes doing so. Well, maybe I’m only asked about this once a month, but that’s still 12 x 5 minutes saved = one hour.

Add this to all the other tasks, I save time on, and you can get a lot of things done during that time. Time that would else have been totally wasted on something unproductive.
